It's not easy being green

I like to put as much of my waste in the back yard compost bin as possible. It makes great garden soil and reduces our trash. I compost fruit and veggie waste, the coffee and tea grounds and filters/bags, dryer lint, hairballs off the floor and out of my brushes and drains, and any newspaper I use for peeling potatoes or whatever.

I keep the compost in a mini trash can that has a removable bucket. I line it with the plastic bags (wasteful!) that I get the produce in at the grocery store.

In the warm weather months, it's no big deal to take the compost out every couple nights after dinner, but man, I hate to do it in the winter! It's just annoying to put on my boots and tromp through the snow in the backyard, so I never do it.

And therefore, my compost bin ends up looking like this before I manage to take care of it. Pretty gross, eh?

Well, it's not always easy being "green!"
